Chicken or the egg? Employee growth comes from…..

Consistent employee growth, even in good and uncertain times comes from a) dumb luck b) the market c) mindset?

The right answer might be a little of each but if your house mortgage depends on it, find companies that are run by high thinking leaders. Leaders who are thoughtful, results driven and can maneuver when markets change are the best bets.

Y axis – the company is hiring thinking leaders every year and keeps improving its mindset hiring.

X-axis – the company financials improve, including employe hiring.

The upper right hand corner represents classic momentum. Did employee hiring come first. No. really intense leaders create and sustain the momentum.

The left side is not a pretty story. That’s the story of firing and removal. If this were animated, you would see things roll downhill from right to left. For whatever reason, sometimes companies loose key leaders and momentum and markets shift. Personally, I think bad boards drive change more than anything else. People want to work at thriving companies but thriving companies sometimes let in problems and gravity takes over.

So, ask yourself…. Are you hiring improving ‘soft skills’ leaders? Do you create exceptions? Do you measure current vs aspirational business model goals and analyze leadership capability vs. what others have accomplished?

If you are not measuring you get random results.
